HELLO EVERYONE!
Today I will mention you about the "Telecollaboration" experience we did with the University of Malaga, Spain in our IT&MD course.
WHAT IS TELECOLLABORATION?
- Telecollaboration is defined by Julie A. Belz in the following way:
“…internationally-dispersed learners in parallel language classes use Internet communication tools such as e-mail, synchronous chat, threaded discussion, and MOOs (as well as other forms of electronically mediated communication), in order to support social interaction, dialogue, debate, and intercultural exchange.” (2003a: 1)
TELECOLLABORATION IN EDUCATION
Telecollaboration in education is the use of computer and/or digital communication tools to promote learning through social interaction and collaboration, thus moving the learning process beyond the physical boundaries of classrooms.
WHAT WE DID?
Me and my two turkish friends met with two students in Spain every Sunday at 7pm for 7 weeks via zoom. We met the first week. In the second week, We told each other about the difficulties we had in learning English and shared them through the padlet. In the third week, we talked about how to use web 2.0 tools in education. In the following weeks, we selected specific tools and developed new materials with these tools.
the effects of this project on me
First of all, I am very happy that I have made Spanish friends. It felt good to see that I was experiencing similar difficulties when acquiring a second language. Apart from these, Now, I know very well how to use web 2.0 tools and I won't have any problems when I become a teacher.
